幼少期をマレーシアで過ごし、その経験が英語力の基盤となったS。英検準1級には周囲の影響を受け挑戦し、初受験で見事合格する。新しい設問「要約」の宿題を徹底的にこなした先生との練習が役立ったと振り返る。次はIELTSに挑戦し、将来の夢はパイロットやビジネスパーソンへと大きく広がっている。毎日コツコツと勉強すること、それが彼女からのアドバイスだ。

Part 1: English Learning Background
Reilly: Can you tell me about your English learning background so far, from the beginning?
S: I was born in Takamatsu and moved to Malaysia when I was just one year old. I attended a kindergarten and later an international school while living there. I stayed in Malaysia until I was seven, which was through the 2nd term of my second-grade year, and then my family moved back to Japan. After returning, I joined Neston, where I’ve learned a lot of English and developed my skills further.
Reilly: So, you were in Malaysia from one to seven years old?
S: Yes, I lived there until the second grade.

Part 2: Preparing for and Passing Eiken Pre-1
Reilly: Why did you decide to take the Pre-1 test?
S: I decided to take it because I noticed other kids around me preparing for it as part of their future plans and junior high school goals. It motivated me to set the same goal.
Reilly: How many times did you attempt the Pre-1 test?
S: I passed it on my first try.
Reilly: Wow, that’s impressive! How did you prepare for it?
S: I bought a textbook specifically for Pre-1 preparation and brought it to Neston. I worked on it together with you, Reilly, and other teachers here.
Reilly: What kind of content did the textbook focus on?
S: It mainly covered vocabulary building and summary writing, which were key areas for the test.
Reilly: What did you find most useful when studying at home?
S: Homework assignments that involved writing summaries were extremely helpful. They really improved my ability to write quickly and think on my feet, which I think became my strengths during the test.
Reilly: How did you feel on the actual day of the exam?
S: Honestly, I was super nervous—I even had a stomach ache. All I wanted was to finish the test as quickly as possible and go home. So, I focused really hard, completed it fast, and somehow managed to pass.
Reilly: After passing the first written test, how did you feel?
S: I was shocked, like, “Whoa, I actually did it!” But then I remembered there was still the second test, which made me feel a little nervous again.
Reilly: How did you prepare for the second test?
S: I made use of all the time I had. I practiced a lot with both you and Matthew, and I also worked with my dad at home to get ready for the interview portion.

Part 3: Future Plans and Advice for Others
Reilly: Now that you’ve passed Eiken Pre-1, what’s your next step?
S: My parents and I are considering IELTS as the next challenge. It’s actually more for my parents, since they need English for their business, but I think it’ll be a good experience for me too. For me, it’s not about passing or failing; it’s more about achieving a high score.
Reilly: That’s a fantastic challenge! Do you have any advice for other Neston students preparing for Eiken?
S: My advice is to study as much as you can. I made it a habit to study every day for at least 30 minutes.
Reilly: What are your goals for junior high school and beyond?
S: I’d love to go to an international school, but there aren’t any in Takamatsu. To make that happen, I’d need to move to another prefecture, which is difficult for my family.
Reilly: And what about after high school?
S: My dream is to become a pilot because I want to travel the world and learn about other cultures. But I also think it would be amazing to become someone like *Oscar Mendez—a successful and inspiring businessperson.
Reilly: Both of those are incredible goals. Congratulations again!

第1部: 英語学習の背景

Reilly: 1歳から7歳までマレーシアにいたのですね？
S: はい、小学2年生まで住んでいました。

第2部: 英検準1級の準備と合格
Reilly: なぜ準1級を受験しようと思ったのですか？
S: 周りの子どもたちが将来や中学校入学の目標のために受験しているのを見て、私も挑戦しようと思いました。
Reilly: 準1級の試験には何回挑戦しましたか？
S: 初めての受験で合格しました。
Reilly: すごいですね！どうやって準備したのですか？
S: 専用のテキストを買って、それをネストンに持ってきました。Reilly先生や他の先生たちと一緒に勉強しました。
Reilly: そのテキストはどんな内容でしたか？
S: 語彙の強化や要約の書き方を中心に扱っていました。
Reilly: 家での勉強で特に役立ったことは何ですか？
S: 要約を書く宿題がとても役に立ちました。早く書く力や、素早く考える力が鍛えられ、それが私の強みになったと思います。
Reilly: 試験当日はどんな気持ちでしたか？
S: 正直言うと、すごく緊張してお腹が痛かったです。とにかく早く終わらせて家に帰りたかったので、集中して一気にやり遂げました。結果的に合格できました。
Reilly: 一次試験に合格したとき、どんな気持ちでしたか？
S: 驚いて「うわっ！」と思いました。でもその後、二次試験があることを思い出して少し不安になりました。
Reilly: 二次試験の準備はどうしましたか？
S: 時間を最大限活用して、Reilly先生やMatthew先生とたくさん練習しました。また、家では父とも面接の練習をしました。

第3部: 将来の計画と他の人へのアドバイス
Reilly: 準1級に合格した今、次の目標は何ですか？
S: 両親と一緒にIELTSの受験を考えています。両親の仕事で英語が必要なので、それに挑戦します。私は合否というよりも、良いスコアを目指すつもりです。
Reilly: 素晴らしい挑戦ですね！ネストンの他の生徒たちにアドバイスはありますか？
S: とにかくたくさん勉強してください。私は毎日少なくとも30分は勉強するようにしていました。
Reilly: 中学校以降の目標は何ですか？
S: インターナショナルスクールに通いたいですが、高松にはそういった学校がないので、他の県に引っ越さないといけなくなり、それは家族にとって難しいです。
Reilly: 高校卒業後は？
S: まず、パイロットになりたいと思っています。旅行したり、他の国のことを学んだりしたいからです。でも、オスカーメンデスのような成功したビジネスパーソンになるのもカッコいいと思います。
